"Slant6" (slant-6)

Is what my dad said when I asked if I could check this out. I really want it. It's my dream car. I don't want to let it go away. It's the first time in my life that I have money to spend on things like this. And I have time.
Although I am only 17 and own two cars already. The Dodge would have to go into storage indefinitely (until I get my own place).

What's with all you damn kids around here trying to spend all your money on project cars?
Go to college and spend your money on women and beer like a normal teenager. You'll have the rest of your life for project cars. #getoffmylawn
Also, if your dream car is a saab 900, you need to seriously reassess your goals.

If you're only 17 and already have two cars goin on three, you may have a problem. I have that same problem. I've had 8 cars in 6 years of driving, but I've never had more than two at a time.

My 9-5 is my daily driver. The other one isn't mine its just that no one else in the family uses it and I'm the only one that takes care of it.

This is a 900 with a turbo. It's pretty fast. And I think it's beautiful. My reasoning is that if I have a cool car (convertible) the girls will come by default.

I guess that's not so bad. Is the Dodge a truck? I feel like if you going to have 2 or 2.5? vehicles at least one should be a truck.

It's a Dart. My 9-5 is a wagon though and I pulled out the rear seats so it's basically a truck. Just this week I used it to carry semi truck tires (2 of them) across the county and also for a 100 gallon aluminum auxiliary diesel tank.

I've had 1 of my own out of 4 years of driving. You just have slightly more funds, or just less of a money pit.

Don't use that logic...if you're serious. Convertibles are cool, but girls (at least 99% of them) won't see quirky 20 year old Swedish cars as cool. Speaking from someone with a car that the top comes off of...I've also never trolled for ass in the car either.

I've just bought a lot of cheap cars. most of the cars i've had were bought for less than 2000 bucks. Hell one was free. I did some figuring at one point and figured most of my cars cost me less than 100 bucks a month, not counting insurance and fuel of course.

I did spend $400 on my 9-5 and I got my Dodge for free. And the car I'm looking at is less than $1000. I've had good luck so far.

My 9-5 cost $400 (about $800 in repairs since then) and the Dodge was inherited. I have had good luck so far.

Hate to say it but if you're gonna go to a big college, or really anywhere, a 900, even with a turbo, will not bring the girls unless she is a fellow Jalop. And I think 900s are awesome cars but that just won't bring the girls.

the major engine work is finished, so get a pulled or rebuilt trans and fix the top. Car is in great shape, good price for it as well.

Exactly, turbo. Sounds great to say "I drive a turbo!" . Yeah, they're fun and economical and shit. But I think most of us jalops would rather drive a larger displacement NA or supercharged car. Way more fun. No compromises. Excellent throttle response. A turbo alone is no reason to buy a car. I know you like how it looks, but does it have anything else going for it? I kind of doubt it. Don't mind me to much, I'm a bit drunk at the moment.

Meh. Spend money on what makes you happy. Not every teenage wants "women and beer". God knows I don't. If an old Saab makes him happy, why SHOULDN'T he buy it?
For me, it would be an old BMW R100/7, but my mom has a very strict no-motorcycle policy, so that's on hold until I move out.

Mine was $5600 and so far has about $4000 more into it, not including gas, that is around $5000 in the past 20,000 miles. So I just own a money pit.

Your missing out then if you're not all about the "women and beer" then.

Yep, mines a money pit. I've somehow spent around $15k(including 5600 purchase price, 4000 on repairs and tires, and 5000+ on fuel) on a 95 Toyota... in 20,000 miles.

I'm not actually worried about girls. I'm want this car because it's rare. They only made 500 like this. I also love the original 900 design and this this it in it's most modern and drivable form. It will appreciate in value.

Nah. I have a girlfriend, though she lives over in Germany. Never really gave a shit about sex - it's a nice bonus in a relationship, but not something I actively pursue. As for beer, if I wanted the effect of getting drunk, I'd just stay off my meds for a few days and wait for the withdrawal to kick in. My brain's fucked up enough as it is. Besides, beer tastes like shit anyway.
Give me an old Bimmer airhead and a wrench to turn any day.

Damn people around here are killjoys lately.
If you like it, have the funds, and are willing to deal with the cost that comes with an old Saab (which you obviously are), then go for it.

If you have to borrow $900 from your dad to buy an old Swedish fixer-upper, I do not recommend buying said car.
